GGS Mandate
The members of the Graduate Geosciences Society (GGS) are the graduate students registered in the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Western Ontario. This Mandate shall serve to guide the actions of the GGS and its executive. The membership agrees that there is no need for a formal charter or bylaws of any kind.
We strive to represent the interests of all graduate students in the Department of Earth Sciences, without bias or prejudice.
We shall pursue our rights and needs as graduate students by actively engaging the faculty, staff, and students of our department both professionally and socially.
We will promote interaction between graduate students of different cultures, nationalities, languages, ages, professional backgrounds, and geoscience disciplines by organizing social and academic events free of bias.
We will maintain and improve our position as qualified, relevant, and forward-thinking geoscientists by contributing to the development of the graduate program curriculum, and by taking our own initiative when deemed necessary.
We recognize the close relationship between undergraduate and graduate students, and will preserve and advance this relationship by working closely with the Outcrop Club and undergraduate students.
We will elect an executive committee approximately once per year, whose charge is the implementation of this mandate; though they have no specific authority and are wholly accountable to the members. The executive will consist of the following positions:
1) President
2) Treasurer
3) Academic Coordinator
4) Social Coordinator
5) Athletics Coordinator
6) Society of Graduate Students (SOGS) Representatives — 3 positions
The membership recognizes its responsibility to assist the executive in implementing this mandate and hold each executive member fully accountable.
